Interview with Mr. Diego Espinosa from Agrocoex, Cotopaxi, Ecuador

Agrocoex is a company that’s been growing roses since 1992 and is located in Cotopaxi-Ecuador. Their strategy is to always be update with the latest varieties. We grow our roses respecting nature and our workers. According to our philosophy we have being certified by FLP, FFP, FLO and BASC, all certifications warranty our work.

You have been growing and selling Voodoo!® for some time now, if you would have to give a positive remark about the variety what would it be?
We have selected Voodoo!® this year, as the new orange variety. To select a new variety is always a risk, because we do not know if the variety is really going to be well accepted in the market. Voodoo!® became a winner from the first sale we made.

What do you see as weak point for the variety?
I really can not find any weak points for Voodoo!®."

What is the strongest attribute of Voodoo!®, how would you describe it?
Voodoo!® has a really strong orange colour, with a very big head size and opens slowly and very nicely. She also has a very good vase life.

Can you compare it to other orange varieties in the market from a growing point of view?
Voodoo!® will find her own specific market as I have not seen any other orange rose with the same strong attributes. The colour of Voodoo!® is very unique; it is intensive.

From your experience as a grower, how does the production, vase life and transportability of Voodoo!® measure up?
Production is good; the plant is generous in the number of stems that sprout as well as the length and quality of the stems. We can expect 1.1 roses per plant per month (100 roses per square meter) in 60-80 cm.

Have you carried out any specific promotion / advertising activities for Voodoo!®?
We have shown Voodoo!® in an open house of Stalduinen in Toronto, Canada and I could tell that the florists really liked this variety.

What are your clients needs when they are using Voodoo!® and for which events/festivities is it suitable?
I think Voodoo!® is a rose that will be loved by retailers who really appreciate good quality roses.

Do you have any suggestions for us, would you like to add on anything else?
We are expecting to get a very nice, new red rose variety from Schreurs.
