Kneppers Rozen is a company registered in Holland with a subsidiary in Kenya called Maridadi Flowers Ltd located in Naivasha district. Kneppers full production is sold through the company headquaters in Holland. The company’s vision is to be able to produce high quality roses with high productivity that meets the demands of the market. This they are trying to achieve through having an even more established farm in Kenya.
The farm is modern and fast growing and has two brothers at the helm. Jack Kneppers is in charge of the nursery in Naivasha which was expanded from 24 to 36 hectares in 2007, while Richard Kneppers is responsible for the processing and sale of the roses in the premises on the FloraHollandterrein in Rijnsburg. Every year more than sixty million roses are sent on their way via the auction clock of FloraHolland (Naaldwijk, Rijnsburg, Bleiswijk and Eelde) and direct sales. Quality and customisation are central to the Kneppers approach. They have a wide range so the entire colour spectrum is available. Kneppers Rozen chose Kenya in 2003 because of the ideal cultivation conditions but still greatly value Dutch thoroughness when it comes to quality control.
To ensure that quality is not compromised Kneppers puts in place strategies such as ensuring good and proper fustigation recipes for proper growth of the crop, having proper crop maintenance practices to achieve high production, good lengths and bud sizes, and general consistence in good rose farming practices. Kneppers also undertakes an intense daily monitoring of the pests and diseases and draws up programs for continuous crop protection.
Some of the roses grown at Kneppers Roses include Trixx!®, Viva!® and Mariyo!®.
Inorder to adhere to good environmental practices, Kneppers uses environmentally friendly chemicals and not the blacklisted ones. The company also has water management systems that ensure conservation and reduction of water and recycling of waste water to irrigate grass and trees on the farm. They recycle the waste in the farm e.g plastics, metal and practice proper disposal of waste chemicals or expired chemicals.
