Sian Roses is the trade name of the group which has four farms in Kenya, as well as a top graft propagation unit.
We have a total of 65 Ha of roses and 5 Ha Calla Lilies, with a staff force of 1,500 people.
Sian Roses sells flowers both to the Dutch Flower Auctions as well as directly to customers such as supermarkets and wholesalers. Our main markets are in the EU (Sweden, UK, Holland, Germany, France and Italy), USA, Dubai and Australia.
Winchester Farm Ltd is the pioneer farm, and was started in 1992. The propagation unit is also housed at Winchester Farm.
The second farm in the group is Agriflora Ltd situated in Njoro, 20km west of Nakuru town. It was started in 1995, and produces roses and calla lilies (Zantedeschia Callas).
The third farm in the group, Equator Flowers, is situated 9km east of Eldoret town. It began in 1997 and produces roses.
The newest farm in the group, Maji Mazuri Flowers, is situated 50 km west of Eldoret and started rose production in 2002.
All our roses are produced in green houses to protect them from rain, wind and extremem temperatures.
At Sian Roses we recycle all drain water, and re-use it in order to conserve water as well as to save fertilizer.
Our flowers are transported to the airport in cooled and insulated trucks.
CSR Activities Blood donation exercise at Winchester Farm On 28th August 2008, staff at Winchester Farm donated blood through the Bloodlink Foundation (BLF). Ogilgei Primary School Sian Agriflora aims to contribute positively to the communities living near the farms. In addition to employing members of the local community, Sian is contributing to improving schools in our neighbourhood.
As part of corporate social responsibility, Sian Roses Agriflora farm began building an administration block at Ogilgei Primary school in Rongai, Nakuru. Construction began in January 2008 using initial proceeds from the sale of Belle Rose. Many of the staff at Sian Agriflora send their children to this primary school. The administration block will house the principal, vice principal and teachers staff room. Ainabtich Primary school is a school located close to Equator Flowers, in Eldoret, Western Kenya. As part of it's social responsibility, Sian Equator has helped renovate school buildings, starting with the administration block and a Primary eight classroom. Sian Roses Maasai endeavours to use environmentally safe methods of growing roses, and the new farm will be harvesting rain water to meet part of its water requirements. The farm also employs Integrated Pest Management (IPM) to control pests, and shall use environmentally safe chemicals in treating plant pests and diseases.
As part of the Sian Group, Maasai Flowers is committed to providing good working conditions for its employees, and shall spend part of its profits to implement corporate social responsibility programs that shall be of benefit to the local community.
The community in the Kitengela area around Sian Roses Maasai include the unique Maasai tribe. Typically, the chief economic activity for the Maasai is herding and raising cattle. Not many are farmers, but at the Sian Roses Maasai farm, Maasai have been employed in the security, workshop and production departments.
